There is the issue of slavery which was handled much differently 50 years ago than it is now.Jefferson is not worthy of our interest because of Sally Hemmings and because he kept slaves. Although I really enjoyed the sections on preferred epuipment and lighting, I paarticularly liked a secion of the book that included 10 self assignments to enhance your photo skills. It is funny, beautiful and truthful. They don't use real swords, but that doesn't mean it's just a game. This book stood out to me because I recognized the names of several contributors. 47, we find the first seven words of a boldface section heading: "Substance Monism and the Doctrine of Mode." The last word -- "Identity" -- is stranded alone at the top of p. The reader unfamiliar with Spinoza but possessing some background in philosophy may prefer to start with this volume rather than with Scruton's, although on the whole I still like Scruton's a little better.In just ninety-three pages, Steinberg covers the gamut of Spinoza's thought.
